Nokia Edge: The first borderless Nokia phone

Nokia to Relaunch Smartphones by March 2017

Finnish telecommunication brand Nokia is all set to re-enter the smartphone business. The company is preparing to launch three of its phones next year. India being one of the huge markets for Android phones, Nokia will introduce both these phones with affordable pricing here.

 One of the Nokia phone is likely to be the most affordable D1C, which would be available in two variants. One being a 2GB model will cost less than Rs. 15,000 in India, while the other variant will come with 3GB RAM and could get a price-tag of under Rs. 45,000. This phone is likely to use a customised version of the Android Nougat. Also, it will get Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, 5.5-inch Full HD screen. The lower variant could get 16 GB internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera. 

On the other hand, the higher variant is expected to get a 16-megapixel rear camera and more storage. In India, the Nokia D1C will compete against capable smartphones like Moto G4 and Redmi Note 3. The latter might become the toughest competitor against the Nokia D1C with attractive pricing and impressive hardware. Nokia started making phones in 1987 and shot up to popularity very quickly. It became the bestselling handset brand by 1998.

But in 2011, its sales dropped significantly due to the tough competition from Android and iPhone. In a desperate attempt to boost the sales, it signed a pact with Microsoft to launch phones with Windows Phone OS, which didn’t pay well.
 Later in 2014 the Finnish brand stopped making phones and sold its mobile business to Microsoft. In the Indian market, Nokia enjoys great brand recognition, which is much better than brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo, Le Eco etc.

To manufacture these smartphones, Nokia will tie up with Finnish company HMD Global and Taiwanese company Foxconn. Also, it is rebuilding the supply and marketing channels using what is left behind by the old Nokia
